doughnuts

Here’s a simple recipe for homemade doughnuts:

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water (around 43°C)
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • Vegetable oil for frying

For the Glaze:

  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Activate Yeast: In a small bowl, combine the yeast and warm water. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it’s foamy.
  2. Mix Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the yeast mixture, warm milk, sugar, salt, melted butter, and the egg. Mix well. Gradually add the flour, mixing until a dough forms.
  3. Knead: On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place it in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
  4. Shape the Doughnuts: Once the dough has risen, roll it out on a floured surface to about 1/2 inch thick. Use a doughnut cutter or two round cutters (one large, one small for the hole) to cut out doughnuts and holes.
  5. Fry the Doughnuts: Heat oil in a deep pot to 180°C (350°F). Fry the doughnuts in batches, 1-2 minutes per side, until golden brown. Remove them with a slotted spoon and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
  6. Make the Glaze: In a bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
  7. Glaze the Doughnuts: Dip the warm doughnuts into the glaze, covering them completely or halfway, depending on preference. Let them sit on a rack to allow the glaze to set.

Enjoy your homemade doughnuts!
