mini calzones

Here’s a recipe for delicious mini calzones! These bite-sized treats are perfect as appetizers or snacks.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for rolling)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp dry yeast
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup fillings of choice (pepperoni, mushrooms, olives, bell peppers, etc.)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Dough:

  • In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it’s foamy.
  • In a large bowl, mix the flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil, and knead until a smooth dough forms (about 5-7 minutes). If it’s too sticky, add a bit more flour.
  • Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rise for 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.

2. Prepare the Filling:

  • In a bowl, combine the pizza sauce, shredded mozzarella, and any other fillings you’d like (pepperoni, mushrooms, etc.).

3. Shape the Calzones:

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Punch down the dough and divide it into small portions (about the size of a golf ball).
  • Roll each portion into a small circle, about 3 inches in diameter.

4. Fill and Seal:

  • Place a spoonful of filling on one half of each circle, leaving a small border around the edge.
  • Fold the dough over the filling to form a half-moon shape. Press the edges to seal and use a fork to crimp the edges for extra security.

5. Brush with Egg Wash:

  • Beat the egg and brush it over each mini calzone. This will give them a nice golden color.

6. Bake:

  • Place the calzones on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown.

7. Serve:

  • Let the mini calzones cool slightly, then serve with extra pizza sauce or marinara on the side for dipping!

Enjoy your tasty mini calzones!
